The people of Ireland voted for Bunreacht na hEireann in 1937. The only way the Constitution can be changed (amended) is by a majority of the people voting for an amendment in a referendum.


The Court System
What is the difference between a civil case and a criminal case? The court system is explained.

The Constitution
The Irish Constitution is called Bunreacht na hEireann. The President is the guardian of our Constitution.

Case History 1. A Tragedy
Philip Sheedy was involved in a car accident in which a woman was killed.

Case History 2. The Court Case
In Court he admitted the charges put to him by Judge Cyril Kelly. He was sentenced to 4 years in prison.

Case History 3. A Walk in the Park
In Herbert Park one evening, a member of the Supreme Court, Hugh O'Flaherty, discussed the case with relatives of Sheedy.

Sheedy's case was relisted in front of Judge Kelly in Court 24.
