O'Flaherty suggested it may be possible to get the case relisted for review. He said he believed a similar situation had occurred in the past over which he presided.

The Supreme Court in the highest court in the land. Supreme Court judges are highly respected and eminent people who have to make judgements on very complex matters of law. In 1999 the most senior Supreme Court Judge was Hugh O'Flaherty (pictured above). He lived close to Herbert Park.

One night he was out walking in Herbert Park when he bumped into a neighbour, Ken Anderson. The Andersons were good friends of the O'Flahertys. Their son, Ken, was out walking with his girlfriend who happened to be Philip Sheedy's sister.

They talked to Hugh O'Flaherty about Philip's predicament. He had been in prison for a year with no possibility of a sentence review. (Remember, it was Sheedy's counsel who had applied to Matthews to have the sentence review suspended.)

O'Flaherty suggested it may be possible to get the case relisted for review. He said he believed a similar situation had occurred in the past over which he presided.

Soon afterwards he called Michael Quinlan to his chambers (a judge's office). Michael Quinlan is the Court Registrar, the person who is in charge of organising the cases, which judges should hear them and in what court. He relisted the case in Court 24 and rang back Hugh O'Flaherty to tell him the case was relisted.
