As he approached Glenview roundabout near Tallaght, he lost control of the car. He hit the roundabout, spun up in the air and landed on another car.
On the 6 March 1996 Philip Sheedy, a Dublin architect was driving a new sports car at high speed. Earlier in the day he had been drinking. As he approached Glenview roundabout near Tallaght, he lost control of the car. He hit the roundabout, spun up in the air and landed on another car.

John Ryan had gone with his two children and a neighbour's child to Tallaght swimming pool. Anne Ryan collected her husband and two children from the pool to drive them home. She was driving on the Glenview roundabout when Sheedy's car entered it at speed, mounted it, rose into the air and landed on the Ryan car before falling on to the road. Tragically Anne Ryan was killed and her husband and children injured.

The Ryans were trapped in their car and were cut from it. Sheedy and his passenger were unhurt. Mr Ryan was rendered unconscious and suffered a broken jaw, broken arm and head injuries. His wife was dead on arrival at hospital.

On the day after the accident Mr Ryan had had to tell his children that their mother was dead and try to comfort them. He was then brought back to St James's Hospital, but discharged himself to attend his wife's funeral some days later.
