Killinarden CS, Tallaght, Dublin linked with........

........Grotu SMP School, Maubisse

Manuel Verdial, Chefe Escola SMP Grotu, Maubisse SMP Grotu is in a valley which during the rainy season can only be reached by four wheel drive with a good driver. It was badly destroyed by the Indonesian military's militias and many of the school materials were ransacked. It was only being opened again for the first time during Oran's visit. There were 40 students, but more were to join. It had only six teachers who weren't being paid yet, just being fed by locals despite the fact that there is still a lack of food among the locals. During the tour of the school, it was explained to him by a teacher how many classrooms had been locked to stop looting, but the militias had broken through the windows to get inside. Some teachers actually stayed in the school to guard some of the materials. The grounds of the school are surrounded by the ruins of scorched homes.

Letters

Alario Mendonca said to the students of Killinarden Community School, Tallaght:
My name is Alario Mendonca and I'm 20 years old. My school's address is SMP Negri, Maubisse.
Before the vote we ran to the forest to hide so that people could not find us. If people did find us then they could kill us all. And after the vote we returned. We saw that our school and our homes had been burned and our coffee crop was burned. Because of this situation we do not have the possibility to stand up and walk by ourselves.
Liana said to the students of Killinarden Community School, Tallaght: Once when we were still small we were a nation and we were truly happy. Our father and mothers told us about this, but we didn't know what this was like until now and we've just seen it with our own eyes. A letter from Juleta: My name is Juleta Isossa. I am twelve years old. In my family there are nine people. After the vote people persecuted us. People threatened us. So we went to the coffee fields and people stole all our things. People burnt our homes and people burnt our clothes so we ask those who are in Ireland to help us with some money and English dictionaries and Portuguese books and some clothes and pens and writing books.
Because of the incidents of the war, we ran separately and are now very poor and we ask to our brother and sisters to help us.
