The attack on America deeply traumatised Americans and most other people around the world. Ireland had a National Day of Mourning.


It is said that everyone remembers where they were when they heard the news that John F. Kennedy, the President of the United States, was assassinated in November 1963. A similar catastrophic event took place in America on the 11 September 2001.

Where were you when you heard of the September 11 attack on America? What were your feelings at that moment?

The attack on America deeply traumatised Americans and most other people around the world. Ireland had a National Day of Mourning. Irish people have very close ties with America. Many people here have friends and relatives working in New York. There were many anxious moments waiting to hear of the fate of loved ones over in New York. Many of the emergency workers who lost their lives were Irish Americans.

Did you or your family have friends or relatives in New York on September 11? What story did they have to tell about the day?

It was nearly a month before America decided to take action over these events. The bombing of Afghanistan took place. At the point of going to press, it appears the Taliban are on the run. However, the fate of the country is still very uncertain.

Do you think that the bombing of Afghanistan by American troops was justified?
