A
World of Universality
Ciara O' Donovan
Ard Scoil Phobal Beanntrai
Corruption, injustice, prejudice, crime, hypocrisy and racism all exist
in the 'so-called' perfect world in which we live. The sooner we face
up to this reality the better for all involved. We are all equal human
beings when stripped of our luxuries and social environments; life can
be difficult for everybody, this is why we must all make an effort to
ensure a better place to live.
Present-day Ireland has become a multicultural society with people of
many different races, religions, and cultures; we should feel honoured
to converse with, and share our country alongside such people. Many Irish
citizens are welcoming but unfortunately there is a percentage that is
narrow-minded, cruel, and discriminatory. These individuals or groups
need to comprehend the whole issue of immigration - after all, the Irish
suffered a lot of hardship when many had to leave our native land in search
of more promising futures. Equality is a basic human right that everyone
should be entitled to; people shouldn't be penalized for being a certain
skin colour or nationality. I believe that people who are racist are insecure
and have unstable identities. If only these people were more liberal and
tolerant, we could perhaps unite to create a peaceful, friendly and democratic
world.
