The Coca-Cola Form and Fusion Design Awards

Roisin Garvey
Ballincollig CS

Roisin Garvey recounts her favourite transition year experience

Transition Year was filled with new experiences. My favourite definitely was "The Coca-Cola Form and Fusion Design Awards". This is a project which allowed student, the independence to create, design and produce a costume, drawing from our creative ability. It was fun and very enjoyable with a bit of hard work thrown in. The fun was enhanced with each group frantically trying to protect their original themes, but as the costumes began to take shape, co-operation became the order of the day.

As the date for the regional heats drew closer, we began to work on nervous energy, putting the finishing touches to our costume. The heats gave us a chance to view entries from other schools; this also introduced the first hint of competition. Wonders will never cease, though… my team got through to the final!!

The final was held over a weekend in May. Groups travelled from all over the country to Millstreet Arena to be greeted by the Coca-Cola Form and Fusion team. During the rehearsals, we began to realise the difficult job the judges had as every costume merited an award. The final, which took place before a packed audience, was a brilliant success. Everybody involved agreed it was a unique experience and the highlight of the year - in fact they're still chatting about it on the website: www.formandfusion.net.

So it's your turn now. All that is required is imagination, creativity and lots of enthusiasm …I'm already thinking of my design for next year!

Roisin's own costume "Shangri La", pictured below, won the category prize of "Best Concept" at the Grande Finale of "the Coca-Cola Form and Fusion Design Awards" on May 19th.

If any student is interested in participating this year, please phone 021 4550434 for details or email: info@formandfusion.net
