Roll of thunder, hear my cry

Niamh O' Leary
Colaiste Choilm, Ballincollig

Ladies and gentlemen of the class of '99, if I could give you one tip for the future, it would be to read 'Roll of thunder, hear my cry'. If there were ever a book that was so good, you couldn't put it down, this is it! You are gonna love it and because it is also on the Junior Cert. course, your teacher will be thrilled with you! And its so the perfect excuse for getting out of doing homework! "No, Mum, really, I'll do my Maths later, I'm just reading my book for English class". What a dreary task. Poor you - not! See what I mean!

The book has lots of laughs, but it has weepy moments too. Just like Titanic. The book tells the story of 11 year old Cassie, a black girl living in Mississippi in the 1930's, when everyone was really racist. But Cassie makes the best of it, and has fun any way. But its not all excitement and fun and there are plenty of places where you'll bawl your eyes out. All in all, it's a classy read, and not to be missed.
