Green Day

Grahame Cullen
Dundrum College

Green Day is one of the most unique grunge bands in the World. The original line-up includes Billie Joe Armstrong on guitar and vocals, Mike Dirnt on bass and vocals, and Al Sobronte on the drums. They have had six albums out since 1991: 39/ smooth, Kerplunk, Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod and Warning.

After the first album, 39/ smooth, Al Sobronte left and made way for Tre cool (their current drummer). In their 5th album Nimrod, Billie Joe used the acoustic guitar for the first time in a Green Day album to play "Good Riddance (The rest of your life)." On their latest, Warning, they opted for a different sound. Billie Joe put down his much loved Fender Stratocaster and picked up a Les Paul JR.

Recently they had a tour called "The Warning Tour." The final concert of this tour was held in Dublin. I attended this concert, which was held in The Point Theatre, Dublin with a few of my friends. We were waiting in line to get into the grounds of the Point Theatre when the band appeared on the roof of the building. The roar of the crowd was deafening but I didn't notice as I was one of the thousands of 16 year olds shouting. When we got into the arena, everyone was excited about seeing the No.1 punk/grunge band in the world. The atmosphere was amazing. They opened up with "Nice guys finish last" and everyone started jumping in all directions. I just can't wait until they play Ireland again.
