Liverpool Football club was
founded in 1892 by a man called John Houlding. However, what many people
don't know is that Liverpool and their Merseyside rivals Everton played
as one team before 1892. The team played under the name of Everton before
there was a dispute between the managers and owners of the club. The argument
led to a split in the already famous club. The team divided into two clubs,
Liverpool and Everton who are still to this day the greatest of rivals.
It wasn't long after 1892
before Liverpool began winning consistently and became feared by other
teams around Britain. In the last century Liverpool have competed in England’s
top league, dropping to a lower division on few occasions. It is obvious
to most football fans that Liverpool is the most successful club in England.
In all, the club has won eighteen league titles in England’s top division,
more than any other club has. However the highlights of the Liverpool
role of honour are the four European Cup titles.
Players like Ray Clemence,
Peter Beardsley and Ian Rush were made famous by playing with Liverpool.
The most recent revelation at Liverpool has been the outstanding young
player, Michael Owen. Great managers in the past such as Bill Shankly,
Bob Paisley and Joe Fagan have helped Liverpool become the most successful
club in English football.
