Robbie Who?

Jenny Connolly
St. Joseph's College (Lucan)

The tickets were like gold dust once they had been sold out. Even after adding two extra dates, the demand for tickets could have filled the Point for a fourth sell out night. Robbie Williams, as suspected, proved that he is one of pop's biggest stars, and growing.

Supporting him were the Supernatural followed by the Divine Comedy. Although they were welcomed and enjoyed by the crowd, it was clear that Robbie was the one they wanted.

A feeling of 'itchy-feet' set in, in what was the only downfall of the concert - the 40-minute delay between the end of the supporting acts and the appearance of Robbie. This was temporarily diverted, however, by the arrival of U2' s Bono for a night of entertainment.
Then he was there. The cheeky boy of pop had arrived and all was forgiven. The ex-Take That member was jumping and roaring and sending the crowd wild. Against a huge backdrop of screen images, Mr Williams cracked jokes at song intervals. He demanded to know why teddies were being fired at him, when he was a 'man', a grown up, having arrived on stage on a motorized toilet (his "life's dream'').

Everyone sang along to the songs, and even gave him a rendition of Angels probably his most popular song to date. As with all good things, the night came to an end too quickly and no one wanted him to leave.

"It was just amazing", one fan told me. ''I can't say anything but wow!"
Robbie Williams - let him entertain you? "Any time he wants!''
